Peter J. Poole, Arctos & BirdPeter J. Poole

Peter is the enthusiastic head of Arctos & Bird. In all of the various projects he undertakes, whether building in an environmentally-intelligent way, preserving elements of Canadian heritage, or taking environmental action, he pursues a clear vision. "Communities thrive," Peter says, "when we link one person with another, when we link art and architecture, and when we link our hopes with nature." A native Albertan, Peter and his family live in Banff. In his leisure time, he enjoys baking bread and leading community bird walks.

Susan Wanamaker, Arctos & Bird Denise Wheelhouse

Denise is Peter's Executive Assistant. She brings her MA in Tourism Policy and Planning from the University of Waterloo to the role, as well as education and skills in community economic development from her experience with Golden Area Initiatives. Denise's passion for skiing initially brought her West. The unique culture of mountain towns is what keeps her here. She explains, "There is something truly unique about sharing the rugged beauty and fragile ecosystem of the Rockies with friends, neighbours and visitors." Prior to her move to Banff, Denise served as a Board Member on the Golden and District Community Foundation. Now, Denise enjoys Banff and exploring this National Park.


Katie Plunkett, Arctos & BirdKatie Fedoration

Born and raised in Banff, Katie has a keen interest in the environment and the “what’s-happening” of Banff National Park. A graduate of Mount Royal’s Bachelor of Applied Policy Studies Program, she is well prepared to tackle the variety of jobs that come her way at Arctos & Bird. Outside of work, Katie likes to spend time with family and friends, explore the outdoors and practice yoga. Katie’s newest adventure is motherhood. She looks forward to including her daughter in her travels with her husband Mike.

Megan Bambrough

Megan BambroughMegan is our Director of Finance and Administration. A Chartered Accountant, she has a strong sense of humour, a love/hate relationship with math, and is happiest outdoors. Her career includes a BCom. from McGill, work with Collins Barrow and valued time as Controller for Devonian Properties. As past Treasurer of the Bow Valley SPCA, she combined her accounting skills with advocacy for animals. Megan enjoys spending time outside with her daughter and her dog Skoki. Skoki likes to pull Megan into swampy water; Megan suspects Skoki knows the original Stoney meaning of her name.

Melanie Booth

Melanie BoothMelanie is good at juggling - life. She is our Interim Controller, a student about to earn her CGA designation, plus avid skier, mountain biker and trail runner. Born in Australia, Melanie grew up in New Zealand, and arrived in Banff in 2004 to ski. She decided to make Canada her permanent home in 2008. A number of Bow Valley business have benefited from her dedication to the accounting profession. Melanie is intrigued by Arctos & Bird's commitment to a triple bottom line. She explains, "I'm looking forward to being part of a team that works to connect people with nature, culture and the built environment.

Ken Beatty

Megan BambroughBefore joining us, Ken was a member of Canada's National Rowing Team and a coach helping athletes of all levels, from "learn to row" to Masters. After nearly 20 years in the sport he dedicated his next chapter to operating remote luxury resorts on the west coast of Haida Gwaii and in the heart of BC’s Great Bear Rainforest. “I’ve been lucky to have had the opportunity” Ken says, “to work with and learn from First Nations, engage in conservation initiatives, meet exceptional people, explore Canada’s wilderness and share it with guests from around the world. I believe wild places, like those found in Banff National Park, are the rarest commodity left on Earth. They have so much to teach us.”

Tammy Kashiwa

Tammy KashiwaTammy moved from a small farm in Japan to a small town in Alberta when she was nine. She brings the best of both cultures to her work with us as Payroll Administator. "I like to play in the mountains", Tammy says, "athough I've slowed down with outdoor adventures since the birth of my daughter." She's added baking and doing crafts to mountain biking and snowboarding as favourite pastimes.

Fusako Shimura

Fusako ShimuraFusako finds Banff a dream place to be, especially because nature lovers who inspire appreciation surround her. Fusako is an interpretive guide, language interpreter as well as ski instructor. Comfortable bridging cultures, she brings her experience of different ways of thinking to Records Management work at Arctos & Bird. She values the trust and respect she finds among colleagues here: “It makes this team unique and wonderful.”


Bedřich Slováček

Bedřich SlováčekBedřich Slováček is our Accounting Technician. He excels at Microsoft Excel and enjoys teaching co-workers Czech. He does not let his Master's degree in Corporate Finance limit his choice of employment. He's unloaded laundry trucks in Alaska and started with Arctos & Bird housekeeping for The Juniper. When Bedřich has time off, he likes to travel and explore.
